Vandals Clash with Vikings on Legon Campus Again, Car Set Ablaze

For the umpteenth time, there has been a clash between students of the Commonwealth Hall (Vandals) and Mensah Sarbah Hall (Vikings) at the University of Ghana.

Today’s clash, according to an eye witness, was instigated by the Vikings, who accused the Vandals of processing in front of their territory. The procession of level 100 students of the Commonwealth hall to the Matriculation ground has been an annual ‘ritual’ and was ongoing when students of Sarbah Hall begun throwing stones.

Vandals are accusing the Okpomates (residents of Sarbah annex B) of inviting their fellows from Kantaga (University Hall, KNUST) to reinforce their base in anticipation of a clash.

A car was also set ablaze as the university security personnel stood helpless. Police and Fire service personnel eventually arrived on the scene, in front of Mensah-Sarbah hall, to calm the tensions and prevent an escalation of the clashes. The burning vehicle, a Toyota Corolla was also put out.

University of Ghana, Legon is holding its matriculation of freshmen for the 2016/2017 academic year.
